What's interesting about this film is that it reflected a genuine American Cold War fear about Communists. In 1993, the CIA released a statement about its own hypnosis program and concluded that "it is doubtful that proscribed behavior can be induced against the subject's wishes, though we must admit that crucial experiments to resolve this question have not yet been performed."
